The True Power of Magic!

During the holiday season we will be looking back to our best blog posts of the year.

Here is Number 9!

Julie and familyWhy are some companies better at marketing than others? Magic of course! Or better stated, because they understand the ingredients necessary to create a “magical” experience.

Recently, I took a family vacation to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, and I have to commend Walt Disney because they put forth constant efforts to make every part of our trip magical – from the Magical Journeys reservation bookings and Magical Express transportation services to the Disney Resort accommodations, the Disney parks and the new and convenient MyDisneyExperience website and app. They even have a Memory Maker photo service to help preserve those lasting memories for years to come!

Walt Disney makes no mistakes about adding their personal touch and character (pun intended!) to every aspect of your excursion, and it all begins with the direct mail and email communications they send before you even depart.  See below:

Our TWO Sense: The Power of Magic!

Being that this was my third trip to Walt Disney World as an adult, I was excited to see my kids reaction to the characters and to check out the new stuff in the parks, but Disney surprised me with even more to look forward to – with a constant stream of personalized mailers and emails that kept me updated on their new custom magic bands, the online fast pass process, my personal reservation registration deadlines, and they even allowed me to customize my own park maps highlighting those can’t miss “favorite” attractions. And right before we left, they sent us a present – free Mickey Mouse luggage tags! Everything was so thoughtful and unexpected… And personalized, timely, beneficial and exciting!

This is something that every company can and should apply to their marketing strategy. Is your company adding their personal touch to all of your on-going customer communications… or after you land that first sale do you forget the “magic” of the relationship you worked so hard to establish? It is critical that a customer’s first impression is as good as their on-going impression which means that you have to work hard to maintain, and of course, grow that connection.

The true magic of Walt Disney has to do with their steadfast commitment to keeping the magic alive during every part of your vacation from beginning to end and then afterwards – to keep you coming back for more! These vacation days are often long, hot, sometimes wet, and always trying (especially with little kids) as you wait in never-ending lines to go on rides and get that popular autograph, but somehow when it’s all over, you still can’t help yourself from thinking about planning that next trip!
