Mobile marketing, marketing on a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet, is experiencing tremendous growth. It is not just for the local retailer anymore with more and more large enterprises getting on board.  According to a recent study, mobile ad revenue to is projected to reach $24.5 billion by 2016.

The average American spends almost 2 hours per day on their mobile device.

If you haven’t already tried mobile marketing, you should make this year the year you explore the marketing strategies that can extend your reach, help you gain new audience segments, build your prospect database or generate new response possibilities.

Mobile marketing comes in many forms. Some of the most popular include:

  • SMS (Short Message Service), or text messages, of no more than 120 characters, are usually read within 4 minutes.  They typically offer a short code to take the reader to a web page.  SMS coupons are redeemed 8 times more than emailed offers.
  • App-based Marketing allows direct engagement, targeting, payment and more.  45% of U.S. mobile marketing campaigns employ app downloads. Users prefer native mobile apps to mobile websites.
  • Mobile Web Advertising on web pages specifically designed for access on mobile devices.
  • Location-based Services provide a way to send custom advertising to cell phone users based on their current location using a GPS chip built into the phone.
  • QR (Quick Response) Codes allow a customer to visit a web page address by scanning a 2D image with their phone’s camera instead of manually entering a URL.  40% of the people will take an action (inquire, purchase) after scanning QR codes.
  • Push Notifications started by Apple in 2007 is a simple effective way for marketers to communicate directly with their customers with limited time special offers.
